About HySpark project

The EU-funded HySPARK project focuses on establishing hydrogen ecosystem for airports and public transport. It operationalises the Polish hydrogen strategy, increases regional cooperation and implements innovative solutions for cleaner transportation. Replication isplanned in Italy and Ireland. The project includes the production and verification of hydrogen-powered vehicles – buses, trucks and ground handling equipment at Chopin Airport in Warsaw, as well surrounding transportation hubs – contributing to the EU’s goal of hydrogen-ready airports by 2050. Hydrogen will be supplied by ORLEN's hub in Włocławek, with plans to produce over 2 500 tonnes of automotive quality hydrogen annually. Six testbeds will be fully equipped to demonstrate and exploit full functionally of hydrogen-based mobility. Additionally, the project will develop a versatile energy planner tooptimise supply chains.

The Importance of Hydrogen Worldwide

Hydrogen plays a crucial role in various sectors such as industry, energy, and transportation. The European Union prioritizes the production of renewable hydrogen, as reflected in the strategies outlined in the EU Hydrogen Strategy and REPowerEU. The aim of these plans is to decarbonize the EU and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels.

Transition to a Hydrogen Economy
